According to ABC News, the government plans to build a 70 kilometre pipe from the Goulburn Valley to Melbourne to transfer 75 gigalitres of water a year to the capital, but the federal member for Murray, Sharman Stone, says the pipeline threatens several vulnerable species that are protected by Commonwealth law, including the Murray Cod and Macquarie Perch.
The ABC news reports “Money from fishing licences in Victoria will be used to boost fish numbers in the Kerang Lakes in the north-west.” (to stock murray cod and golden perch fingerlings)
